P90X Update

After suffering about 6 hour long cramps in both my calfs at the same time yesterday from an intense leg workout, I'm feeling a lot better after Kenpo tonight. I sweat, kicked, and punched a ton and feel great now.

I was getting discouraged because I actually gained about 5 lbs the first week or so of P90X so I wan't even going to blog about it but I'm finally seeing some results -- nothing earth-shattering but I'm not gaining anymore :)

I'm signed up to do a 5K race next Saturday so that should be interesting. My goal: 40 minutes or under... I need to find my stop watch and get a better pair of running shoes. My current ones are at least 10 years old -- not good.

Reserved a lot

On Friday, our builder came over to discuss lots and we ended up choosing one that he will put on reserve. He said they were just talking about that particular lot at the office saying it may have been under-priced somewhat since the backyard neighbors are in a cul de sac so our yard will seem bigger and they're predicting it'll be a very low-traffic street.

When I figure out how to post pics on here, I'll post what the bare lot looks like (thanks for taking the pics, MOM).

Now we have to choose a floor plan and get a loan pre-approval. We sent a list of some of the layouts we like to people and Heather replied back in spreadsheet format so I'll probably use her spreadsheet to track the layouts going forward.

I'm fairly confident we can choose a floor plan okay...our builder and everyone helping us wouldn't let us screw up something major but what I'm most concerned with is picking interior stuff -- I'm no interior designer LOL so anyone who wants to help, I'd be most appreciative!!...still have to lookup the 'subway tile' Lisa mentioned....

P90X

P90X is an extreme home fitness program. It comes with about 13 dvds, a nutritional program, etc. You need a chin up bar, hand-held weights or bands. You're suposed to be able to get in to the best shape of your life in 90 days (or to get a 'beach body'). It's designed for athletic people who have hit a plateau in their regular routines. Well I guess I've hit a plateau in my lack of a routine completely! LOL Actually I do an hour of Pilates twice a week and jog/walk for a bit afterwards but nothing too strenuous.

So, I'm a week and a half into P90X and I'm sore all over. You're supposed to do a dvd every day, six days a week. They range from 50 minutes to 90 minutes and then you do 15 minutes of 'Ab Ripper' every other day on top of the normal workout. There is a stretching routine on the 7th day. It's been tough to find the time to do this since Claire goes to bed between 7:30 and 8 pm so once I'm done working out, it's time for bed! But I've kept with it all but 2 days....I needed a happy hour so I took a break on Friday :)

The work-outs themselves are strenuous, they get you sweating, but are fun. They are definately high impact. For example, one day a week, you do Plyometrics which is basically a cardio-strength training routine done with jumping. Jumping doesn't sound hard but when you do it for an hour with varying moves, it's the most extreme workout out of all of them!

There's a baseline fitness test that you do before starting and you take your before pics (those are what keep me the most motivated -- scary!!). After every month or so, you take the fitness test and pictures again to track your progress.

When I get my beach body (in time for Christmas LOL), I'll post the before and after pics!

Opening

So I started a blog for 3 reasons really. 1) To be able to better track everyone else's blogs 2) to track events related to buying and selling our house and 3) to track my P90x adventure.

I'm sure there will be misc posts but I'll try to keep the topics separate.
